Ochre's utopian electronic music!

Ochre is the work of Newcastle, UK-based artist Christopher Leary. He has been crafting utopian electronic music since 2001. His music connects to the most exciting times of British electronic music and follows in the footsteps of musicians such as Luke Vibert (Wagon Christ), Richard James, Mike Paradinas, Clark, and Boards of Canada while forging its own path into the future. He is described by the NME as “full of shimmering electronics, crunchy, crispy beats and sweeping melancholic melodies that recall classic electronic stars such as Boards of Canada,” with “analogue tones and glitchy beats – snatches of classical orchestration are peppered throughout, helping to create rich cinematic soundscapes.”

Leary is occasionally commissioned to compose music for film and television, and he scored the award-winning animated documentary „Centrefold“, as well as animator Domareen Fox’s award-winning animated short „Dresslocked“. He also completed a practice-led PhD in music at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne.

With Traum, he released his four-track EP „Night Cycle“, comprising the previously unreleased tracks: „Night Cycle“, „Mustang“, „Escom 95“, and „Quercer“. The EP kicks off with the title track „Night Cycle“, displaying a fantastic build-up of energy in the beginning that unfolds into a euphoric and vibrant piece of electronic music. Coming alive as an epic sonic experience, it can also be described as a blend of electro, techno, and abstract sounds, giving the track a universal and classic feel.

„Mustang“ conquers the perpetual ladder of baroque sounds with such elegance and force that it tingles the brain for minutes after it has ended.

„Escom 95“ directly opens up like an umbrella of electronic music, with a strong melody that steers you through wonderful changes of direction, including corrupting glitchy sounds. Despite all the changes, „Escom 95“ propels forward through a firework of melodic progression, contour, and contrast, driven by Christopher Leary's masterful hand.

The closing track „Quercer“ is a wonderfully melancholic take on the genre, firmly placing itself in the world of cinematic music. The track includes surprising compositional changes towards the end, providing extra excitement and sophistication.
